As a standard international practice- equipments are designed for housing into 19" racks. The rack in turn is many control and instrumentation fitted inside the 19" panel meant for the purpose.
19" type racks are specified in terms of U=44.45 mm, viz.12U, 16U, 22U, and 36U. Other sizes are available on request. Depending on user requirement, the racks can be provided in square and round profiles. To meet further environmental requirements, the ruggedness of the racks can be increased by design changes.
Some of the basic types as per IEC 297 standard are as denoted below:
19" Rack
Here, the racks can be directly mounted on predrilled flange of the vertical members. The profile can either be 30R (Round) or 30S (Square) to match or contrast horizontal members.
19" panels can be fitted inside the framework, either by supporting horizontally the pre-drilled members or by fitting floating cage nuts, wherever required in a punched steel strip.
These racks include framework of 19" profile made out of 2 mm thick CRCA or SS sheets (Other thickness are also available on customer request). The Racks are painted in RAL-7032.

Construction features:
IEC 297 covers the Scope construction of racks and enclosure for applications based on 19" practice. 19" signifies the width of the housing. These panels are based on a standard height module of 44.45 mm, which is designated by U. The height is expressed in multiples of U. We at Pyrotech have developed a range of components numbering over 70 for construction of 19" pane1s. The basic construction is our familiar ALCOSY technology in which the framework is made using Aluminum alloy members. These in turn are joined together by means of corner blocks of designated strengths. Some of the critical dimensions have to be strictly maintained in all these panels. The most important ones are-a minimum clear opening of 450 mm, center to center distance of 465.1 mm and panel space of 485 mm which have to be maintained. The difficulties in locally drilling members to such close tolerances are overcome by the use of pre-drilled members; behind which tapped strips are fitted.
